Combinatorial Thinking
This course emphasizes one of the most crucial aspects of chess, the ability to calculate several moves ahead, also known as tactical thinking. Developing combinatorial thinking will continue to be a key focus point in subsequent courses of the Advanced Program.
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Winning Ways or by invitation upon assessment

Solve puzzles to improve tactical thinking
Create a habit of thinking ahead prior to making a move
Explore a variety of different openings and endgames
Game play followed by analysis to start developing critical thinking skills
